Short answer: worry about ungoverned AI use, not AI use. A school using AI within clear rules — no pupil data entering tools, staff reviewing everything, pupils not using general AI directly — is doing something safe and sensible that frees teacher time for children. A school with no rules while staff quietly use AI anyway is the version worth a question at parents' evening.

The questions worth asking your school

Do you have an AI policy, and can I see it (or a summary)?
Is any of my child's personal information entered into AI tools? (The answer should be an unambiguous no for public tools.)
Do pupils use AI directly, and if so, what and how?
Does a member of staff check AI-generated content before children see it?
